Yes. A Good Shepherd, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit (IRS EIN on file). All vehicle donations are tax-deductible. Because we place vehicles directly with qualifying families rather than selling at auction, many donors may deduct the vehicle's fair market value under IRS Publication 526, Section 170(e)(3). How long does car donation pickup take to schedule?

Your vehicle is placed directly with a vetted low-income family or individual in Montgomery County, MD at no cost to them. Recipients receive the vehicle with a Maryland state inspection certificate, up to a 90-day warranty on select vehicles, and AAA membership.

Our mission is to empower families in Montgomery County facing financial hardship, for whom reliable transportation is a critical link to jobs, worship, education, and independence.

Through our Vehicle Ownership Program, donated vehicles become life-changing support—restoring dignity and opening a path toward self-sufficiency for families right here in our community. Donors maximize their tax deductions, while eligible Montgomery County families receive the greatest possible benefit.

Who We Serve

For many people with limited income, not having reliable transportation is the biggest barrier standing between them and steady work, healthcare, education, and independence. We serve working adults, single-parent households, people transitioning out of public assistance or foster care, veterans, and seniors — treating everyone with dignity, regardless of race, religion, gender, or national origin.

What Recipients Receive

Every placed vehicle includes a Maryland State inspection certificate, a 90-day warranty (select vehicles), AAA membership, and full MVA compliance.

Vehicles We Accept

We accept virtually any vehicle — cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, boats, motorcycles, RVs, and more — in any condition, running or not. If it has wheels, we want to hear from you

Get Involved

We're looking for skilled volunteers, partner organizations, and sponsors. Opportunities range from certified mechanics and administrative support to towing providers and grant writers, among others. Volunteers must be at least 19 years old.
We also welcome financial gifts and in-kind donations, and we're always seeking partner agencies to help us identify and support the families we serve.
